The Met Ball is always a who’s who of fashion and Hollywood, and with this year’s floral fashion trend blossoming in everything from jeggings to tanks, I paid close attention to see if it would make an appearance on the New York City red carpet. Well…it did, but I’ve got to be honest…I’m not sure I loved what was blooming! Anna Wintour, the Vogue Editor-in-Chief/Final Word on All Things Fashion/Supposed Inspiration for The Devil Wears Prada donned herself a very summery floral print with short sleeves and pinks, yellows and whites. Now, I’m not saying it’s a bad dress by any means…but when you see the amazing works of art that those other gala-goers were gracing the red carpet in, it felt, well, a little wilted. No drama, no hullabaloo, just a pretty long floral dress that you could see her wearing to a beautiful outdoor garden wedding. To New York’s premier fashion-forward event of the year? Not so much.
Then there was the reality TV starring half of Kimye, who certainly looks glowing as a mama to be. But, it was hard to focus on that when all you could see was head to toe (literally!) fabric of flowers! This mock turtle-necked gown was a bit too much going on, what with the extra dress needed to cover Kim’s growing belly, the matching gloves and matching shoes! The slit was pretty much the only relief from the onslaught of flowers blooming all over Kim’s body. I do applaud Kim’s body-hugging choice, but the print, gloves and shoes made it all a bit too much flower for this florist!
