In honor of this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October, we thought we would share some of the amazing ways that you can use your wedding to give back. Weddings usually mean some pretty lofty spending, and it’s heart warming to know that there are so many options available to you to use the money you’re spending to have both the wedding of your dreams and to help others at the same time. Your heart overflowith with love, so why not share the love with those in need?
That dream wedding dress of yours doesn’t have to cost you a pretty penny, and it can go much further than down the aisle on your big day. Brides Against Breast Cancer travels the country, setting up stores in different cities where they sell pre-owned wedding gowns as well as gowns donated by top name designers at a greatly reduced price (hello, Vera at a discount!). The proceeds from the gown sales to go to grant final wishes for men and women with terminal breast cancer, such as a trip to Disney with the fam or a video camera to record a message for loved ones and kids. If you’ve already bought your gown, you can donate it to Brides Against Breast Cancer after the wedding day to allow your gown to continue to bring joy to others in more ways than one.
If you’re wondering what to do with all those pretty flower arrangements after your wedding day, you can donate them to a nursing home to bring cheer to the residents, and if you have food left over, there are food services in many cities that you can donate that food to who will then use it to feed the hungry. Not sure what to do for your wedding favors? Instead of little tchotchkes, you can make a donation to your favorite charities. At the wedding, you can have little favor cards by the place settings letting your guests know that in lieu of a favor, you have made a donation in their name to the charity.
