The days of the overly glam and opulent cake table of yesteryear are out, and in are vintage and rustic inspired cake tables with a touch of whimsy! We just love this new take on the cake table, a much needed change to display the vintage looks of today’s cakes, often fewer tiered cakes and sometimes multiple smaller wedding cakes donned on beautiful vintage cake stands. With dessert bars also becoming a mainstay in weddings, the cakes are often sharing the spotlight with a plethora of sweets, bringing a need for longer, larger cake tables than the small round tables so often used in years gone by.
So, how do you bring the vintage or rustic look into your cake table? Vintage pieces as the cake table make a beautiful impact without detracting from the cake, such as a vintage piece of furniture like a sewing machine. For the rustic wedding, we’re seeing more and more large barrels used as cake tables. Rather than covering a not-so-pleasing to the eye regular old hotel table in linens, these thoughtful and attractive pieces are left uncovered, adding to the overall look of the wedding reception. As for the pretty little details added to the cake tables (in addition to that delicious wedding cake!), bouquets and flowers will always be a mainstay, but brides are starting to move in more creative directions. Candles wrapped in burlap or lace, intricate oversized monogram letters and vintage frames are just a few of the lovely decor ideas we’ve been seeing. Still want to glam up your cake table? Keep it vintage and sophisticated with small chandeliers. Thinking of moving in a lighter, more whimsical direction? Streamers, mini-windmills and vintage banners in burlap or your wedding colors will add a pretty and fanciful touch to the cake table that your guests will absolutely eat up! God I love the Frosting Your Cake Table Concept!
